Panthers Battle Hard but Fall 3–2 in Tight Rematch with Huskies

FRANKFORD, ON – In a physical, tightly contested rematch on Saturday night, the Port Hope Panthers pushed the Frankford Huskies but ultimately came up just short, falling 3–2 in a game defined by special teams and timely goals.

The Panthers struck first late in the opening period. At 16:43, Spencer Eriksson snapped home his 10th of the season, capitalizing on a neutral-zone turnover and giving Port Hope a 1–0 lead after a defensively strong first frame.

Frankford responded in the second period, and special teams became the story. On the power play at 8:16, Riley Grimmon tied the game, converting a feed from Spencer Stanutz and Blake Ellis. Both teams traded man-advantage opportunities throughout the period, but the score remained locked 1–1 heading into the third.

The final frame brought dramatic swings. Frankford took their first lead at 1:21 with a rare shorthanded goal from Blake Ellis. The Panthers, however, answered back with a power-play strike of their own. At 8:55, Mike Hatfield buried his fifth of the season off a setup from Liam Barker, pulling Port Hope even at 2–2.

But penalties proved costly late. At 10:41, the Huskies reclaimed the lead on another power-play goal—this time Grimmon’s second of the night—pushing Frankford ahead 3–2.

Port Hope generated pressure in the closing minutes, but the Huskies tightened defensively and held on to secure the win.

Despite the loss, the Panthers delivered a disciplined effort at even strength and continued strong special-teams play, including a key power-play marker and a composed penalty kill in the third period.

Port Hope will look to turn their effort into results as they continue an intense stretch of divisional matchups this month.
