Panthers Fall 4–1 to Pirates on Hockey Fights Cancer Night

PORT HOPE, ON – On a night dedicated to honouring fighters, survivors, and families affected by cancer, the Port Hope Panthers delivered a spirited effort but ultimately came up short, falling 4–1 to the Picton Pirates on Saturday at the Jack Burger Sports Complex.

Port Hope fed off the energy of the special evening early. At 6:05 of the first period, Ryerson Minifie opened the scoring, burying his third of the season off a clean setup from Zach Naherne and Colby Hercia to give the Panthers a 1–0 lead. The Panthers controlled much of the play through the opening frame, backed by strong pace and disciplined defensive work.

The game turned in the second period, however, as Picton capitalized on two rare shorthanded goals less than a minute apart. At 8:39, Keenan Wiles tied the game, and moments later, Braeden Davis struck to give the Pirates a 2–1 lead. Despite several power-play opportunities and sustained zone pressure, the Panthers couldn’t find the equalizer before the period ended.

The third period saw both teams tighten up, but Picton added to their lead at 12:20 when Luc Amat finished off a passing play from Ben Smith and Gibson Lakins to make it 3–1. With the Panthers pressing late and the net empty, the Pirates sealed the game with another shorthanded marker—this time from Nate Woods at 13:54.

The organization thanks all supporters, families, and community members who contributed to Hockey Fights Cancer Night, helping raise awareness and celebrate the strength of those affected.

Port Hope looks to regroup as they return to action on the road next Friday vs. Amherstview Jets.
