The Port Hope Panthers are pleased to announce today that the organization has promoted Head Coach David Miller to General Manager. Miller will remain as the Panthers' Head Coach while taking on the additional responsibilities of General Manager.
Hired as the Head Coach in Port Hope ahead of the 2020-2021 season, Miller gained valuable knowledge and experience working within the Tod Division within the Provincial Junior Hockey League (PJHL). Prior to this, Miller spent six seasons as an Assistant and Head Coach with the Clarington Eagles within the Orr Division, as well as coaching the Clarington Toros U15 AAA program. Miller works as an elementary school teacher in Courtice, ON.
"David is a tremendous person," said Alex Guiney, who has stepped down as General Manager of the Panthers. "Since joining the Panthers last offseason David has treated all of our players and staff with respect, while working tirelessly to create a positive environment in which each individual within our organization has the opportunity and resources to better themselves. David's enthusiasm and commitment to continuing to provide opportunities for our players hasn't gone unnoticed. While it is bittersweet to be moving on in order to pursue other opportunities, the Panthers are in good hands with David."
"I was extremely honoured to be asked to coach the Panthers last season," said David Miller. "Despite the irregularities of the season, I believe we made valuable developmental steps with our core group of players. Alex did a fantastic job at setting the Panthers up for success in the future and I am forever grateful for the opportunity he provided for me and my staff last season. Alex's dedication to success, even through a challenging season, sets a great example of what is expected moving forward, and I wish him nothing but the best in his journey moving forward."
"I am honoured to be taking on more of a role within one of the premier destinations in the PJHL. The Port Hope Panthers organization has a rich history of operational and hockey success, and we plan on continuing to provide both to the residents of Northumberland," said Miller on his expanded role with the club. "While taking over as General Manager brings much more responsibility and will provide challenges, I am excited for the opportunity and know that we have the right staff in place in order to find success both on and off the ice"
The Panthers will be hosting their 2021 Prospect Camp on August 23rd and 25th at the Cobourg Community Centre. Players interested in attending can register at the link below. The PJHL announced that the 2021-2022 Season will begin on October 1st, 2021.
