Panthers Take Down First Place Chiefs

LAKEFIELD, ON –

The Port Hope Panthers put together one of their most dynamic offensive performances of the season on Sunday afternoon, taking down the Lakefield Chiefs 6–4 in a fast-paced matchup highlighted by momentum swings, special teams action, and standout individual efforts.

Port Hope wasted no time getting on the board. Just 1:35 into the game, Mike Hatfield struck for his third of the year, finishing a setup from Kyle Ramsperger and Tyler Challice to make it 1–0 Panthers early.

Lakefield responded with pressure in the second period, and Ethan Yantha took over briefly, scoring twice—once at even strength and once shorthanded—to give the Chiefs a 2–1 lead. But the Panthers quickly countered. Christian Sokoljuk tied the game at 14:57 on a feed from RJ Jackson, and less than a minute later, Hatfield buried his second of the night to restore the Panthers’ lead heading into the third.

The final frame saw the goals come even faster. Lakefield tied the game just 1:11 in, but Port Hope answered back again as Sokoljuk netted his second of the game at 2:47 to reclaim the 4–3 advantage. Lakefield wouldn’t go away, tying the game once more at 6:14, but the Panthers found another gear in the back half of the period.

At 10:55, Ryerson Minifie scored his first of the season—an important go-ahead marker assisted by Zach Naherne and Sokoljuk. With Lakefield pressing late and the Chiefs’ net empty, Sokoljuk completed the hat trick with his third of the night and 16th of the season, sealing the 6–4 victory at 19:18.

Port Hope’s power play generated sustained momentum through multiple Lakefield penalties, while disciplined structure allowed the Panthers to answer every push the Chiefs made. With multi-goal nights from both Hatfield and Sokoljuk, the Panthers secured a strong offensive win and valuable points in the standings.

Port Hope now looks ahead to their next matchup as they continue building momentum through November.
