LATE PUSH NOT ENOUGH IN SATURDAY NIGHT GAME

PORT HOPE, ON – The Port Hope Panthers waited too late to make a push as they trailed 5-2 heading into the third period in a game that finished with a 7-4 final score.

Lakefield opened the scoring just 1:28 into the contest, but the Panthers answered quickly. Nathan Hibbard tied the game at 2:03 with an unassisted effort, giving the Port Hope crowd an early reason to cheer. The Chiefs responded with a pair of goals later in the first period to take a 3–1 lead into the first intermission.

The visitors added to their lead early in the second period on the power play, making it 4–1. Port Hope pushed back midway through the frame as Ryerson Minifie buried his fourth of the season at 7:44, finishing a setup from Sidney Wakely and Jacob Bone to pull the Panthers within two. Lakefield answered again before the end of the period, restoring a three-goal advantage heading into the third.

The Chiefs extended their lead early in the final frame, but the Panthers refused to go quietly. Special teams sparked a push from Port Hope, as Zach Naherne scored on the power play at 9:50, followed by another man-advantage goal from Christian Sokoljuk at 11:40. Sidney Wakely picked up assists on both tallies as the Panthers closed the gap and looked to build momentum.

Any hopes of a late comeback were halted by a Lakefield power-play goal at 16:43, which sealed the 7–4 final.

Sidney Wakely led the Panthers offensively with three assists on the night, while the team’s power play connected twice in the third period. The Panthers will play their final game of 2025 tomorrow afternoon at home as they host the Napanee Raiders in an afternoon contest. Puck Drop is set for 1:30 PM.
