Trent Hills Rallies in Third Period to Defeat Port Hope 3–2

CAMPBELLFORD, ON – The Trent Hills Thunder battled back in the third period to edge out the Port Hope Panthers 3–2 on Saturday night in Campbellford.

After a scoreless first period that saw both teams trade penalties but fail to capitalize, Port Hope struck first early in the second. Just 31 seconds in, Christian Sokoljuk opened the scoring with his first of the season, assisted by Ryerson Minifie and Spencer Eriksson.

The Thunder tied it up at 10:33 on a goal off the stick of Ellis, but Port Hope quickly regained the lead at 14:39, when Eriksson buried his first of the year, again assisted by Minifie and Sokoljuk.

At 8:44 of the third, Brody Brooks tied the game giving Trent Hills life. Then, with just 4:30 left on the clock and another man advantage, Hinan struck, giving the Thunder their first lead of the game and eventual win.

The game featured a total of 16 penalties, including three 10-minute misconducts. Port Hope’s physical play eventually proved costly, with back-to-back head contact infractions in the second period resulting in extended time without key players.

Christian Sokoljuk, despite a strong showing offensively (1G, 1A), was handed both a two-minute minor and a 10-minute misconduct for head contact late in the second. Later, Connor Ivey would receive the same penalty combination, further depleting the Panthers’ bench.

Trent Hills also faced disciplinary issues, with Brendan Reid receiving a misconduct for abusive behavior, and Jack Andrews spending time in the box twice during the game.

Panthers are 0-2 on the season with their next game Saturday September 20 back home vs. the Lakefield Chiefs.
