Panthers Bounce Back in 2-1 Win over Pirates

PORT HOPE, ON – The Panthers were looking to bounce back after their unfavourable performance last Sunday in Trent Hills an they did just that. Port Hope earned a hard-fought 2–1 victory over the Picton Pirates at home on Saturday night, battling through a scoreless opening period and a penalty-filled contest to secure the win.

After a tight first period with no scoring, Picton opened the scoring just 32 seconds into the second when Gerrit Kempers found the back of the net. The Panthers responded midway through the frame, as Nathan Hibbard tied the game at 8:25, finishing a play set up by Mike bto make it 1–1 heading into the third.

Special teams proved to be the difference in the final period. At 4:28 of the third, Colby Hercia capitalized on the power play, scoring what would stand as the game-winning goal to give Port Hope its first lead of the night.

Both teams traded penalties throughout the game, but the Panthers’ discipline and timely execution allowed them to close out the one-goal victory. Strong defensive play and steady goaltending in the final minutes helped Port Hope hold off Picton’s push and secure two points.

Panthers have a busy week ahead of the holidays including two road and two home games this week.
